New Delhi: On Thursday, the Delhi court remand of AAP’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy case extended to August 8. Accustomed to appearing before the court via video conference from Tihar Jail, Kejriwal was led to face a decision made for him by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja at Rouse Avenue court. Further, under this extension, other suspects in another money laundering case are BRS leader K Kavitha and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Besides the extension of the custody, the court ordered Tihar Jail authorities to produce Kejriwal through the video conference on July 31 for the next proceedings. But even after availing an interim bail in a different case by the ED, Kejriwal is in Tihar Jail because the CBI arrested him, alleging irregularities in the formation and implementation of the excise policy.

AAP Blames BJP and Delhi Court

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been heavily attacking the central government headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that the latter has put the health of Kejriwal in danger by putting him in jail. AAP alleged that Kejriwal has drastically reduced his weight and was on a harmful low blood sugar level, which risks placing the leader in a comma or brain damage state. In return, the BJP accused Kejriwal of deliberately going on a restricted diet in a bid to sympathies from the public. BJP leader Shazia Ilmi said Kejriwal was misguiding the public by Planning his diet in advance.

In the existing debates, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena stated that Kejriwal may be resisting his prescribed diet and medications. Later, writing a letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, the Lieutenant Governor relied on a prison report that alleged that Kejriwal had been surviving on low-calorie meals though he is provided with proper homemade food.
