NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party government honored 5 players and a coach from Delhi who brought glory to India in the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics under the cash incentive scheme. Chief Minister Atishi honored player Sharad Kumar with a cheque of Rs. 2 crore, Aman with Rs. 1 crore, Sharad Kumar’s coach Sajal Kumar Rai, Tulika Mann and Vikas Singh with Rs. 10 lakh each and Amoj Jacob with a cheque of Rs 5. lakh. A total of Rs. 3 crore 35 lakh was distributed among these players by the government.

Children of Delhi Sports School were present during the felicitation ceremony. The awarded players gave tips to the children to achieve success in national and international level sports. Also, they answered the children’s questions.

CM Atishi said that in the last 10 years, the AAP government has tried to help as much as possible to hone the talent of new and international level players in Delhi. Delhi CM Atishi said that our players work hard day and night. They remain engaged in achieving their targets, participate in competitions and increase the pride of the country by demonstrating their sports ability. 

“When we see our players winning medals in the Olympics or Asian Games, we feel very proud. At the same time, there is a pang in the heart that India is such a big country. We have so many talented players and youth, but despite having so much talent, why is it that many countries which are much smaller than India, still take more medals than us,” she added.

CM Atishi further said that I am happy that in the last 10 years, we in the Delhi government have tried our best to support new players and international level players as much as possible.

In the year 2023-24, the students of Delhi Khel Vidyalaya participated in eight sports and won 19 medals at the national level and 88 medals in the Delhi State Championships. Among the students who performed well, Sandhya won the gold medal in table tennis. Chestha won the gold medal in boxing. Divyansh Rawat and Deepanshu both won gold medals in badminton.
