New Delhi: After 27 years, the return of a central state to BJP rule looks set to be decisive, with the party once again in power in the National Capital. Behind them, the party comfortably crossed the majority mark, winning 48 out of 70 seats, giving them the immediate task of forming the next government.
Following the finalization of the election results, the BJP has intensified talks about the selection of the next Chief Minister of Delhi. The party leadership would decide about the CM’s name in a crucial legislature party meeting today. The Indian BJP will unanimously back the decision in its Parliamentary Board as well.
Visuals from outside of BJP headquarters show a large gathering of party workers waiting for the announcement before the meeting. The newly elected MLAs will be present at the meeting, where senior leaders will also be attending. BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Gautam, when asked about the next CM, said, “Suspense.… the decision will be taken by the party’s legislative party and approved by the party’s parliamentary board… There is no formula.”
Earlier today, in a major development, the BJP Parliamentary Board, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met and finalised observers for the meeting. Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar, BJP leaders in their senior capacity, have been appointed observers to oversee the proceedings.
The swearing of the new Delhi Cabinet will take place on February 20 at the iconic Ramlila Maidan; the BJP has also announced. The party’s strong comeback in Delhi means that the event is going to be a massive political spectacle. Party members and political analysts watch the scene closely as they wait for the announcement of the Chief Minister.
