Delhi airport released a warning on Friday as the city remains blanketed with the thick fog disrupting the flights. The mist had caused nearly zero visibility in several parts of the National Capital, compounding air traffic control problems and passenger mobility.
The advisory pointed out that only airplanes fitted with CAT III equipment that allow flying in poor visibility would be able to proceed as planned without any disruption. Those flights that do not conform to CAT III standards could be affected.
A message was posted on the official social media platform X by the Delhi Airport Authority, and it said, “While landings and take-offs are continuing at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may experience delays or disruptions. Passengers are advised to stay updated by checking with their respective airlines for the latest flight information. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused.”
The management of the airport stressed the need for passengers to continue checking with their respective airlines to get up-to-date information on flights to avert inconveniences. Initiations of separate bulletins were also made by various airlines, including Indigo, to brief the people on the expected delays and disruptions. Indigo said that probably the flight timings from Delhi and other northern states might be affected due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Choosing to focus on aviation disruptions, these noxious phenomena also caused problems for ground transportation employing road and rail networks, not to mention discomfort for commuters. In a statement to its passengers, the management of the airport said everything was being done to avoid such disruptions and provide normal operations even in bad weather.
Delhi-based passengers must take appropriate actions to plan their travel in advance and avoid rushing through the airports and airlines’ official sources for information.
