New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is all set to return to Tihar Jail. Delhi CM was denied immediate relief on his interim bail plea by a Delhi court. Although, the court has postponed its decision on the plea until June 5.
In a press conference, Mr. Kejriwal said, “The day after tomorrow, I will leave my house (on June 2) around 3 pm to surrender. We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to sacrifice my life for the country, do not mourn.”
“On the orders of the honourable Supreme Court, I came out for 21 days for election campaigning. I am very grateful to the honourable Supreme Court. Today I will surrender by going to Tihar. I will leave home at 3 pm. First I will go to Rajghat and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. From there I will go to Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place to seek blessings of Hanuman ji. And from there I will go to the party office and meet all the workers and party leaders. From there I will again leave for Tihar. All of you take care of yourselves. I will worry about you all in jail. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail. Jai Hind!”, wrote CM Kejriwal on X.
The link between the Chief Minister inside jail and his cabinet and party, the leader said, “will be Sunita Kejriwal”. He said “those who think she (Sunita) will become CM are wrong”. “Sunita ji is not interested in active politics, but she will play a key role in the party leadership… she will be meeting the CM frequently so she will bring his messages to the ministers, party and people on a daily basis.”
With the Delhi Assembly polls slated for next year, leaders including Rai and Singh will start work in this direction. The AAP leader said MP Raghav Chadha will be focusing on his “role in Punjab party work”.
The leader said the CM going back to jail will indeed be a setback to the party. “But he has prepared both the party and the cabinet to face this. He (CM) has put in place a plan, with each leader assigned a specific role so the government runs smoothly,” he said.
