New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday won a motion of trust that was tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
A total of 54 of 62 AAP MLAs were present during voting. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said no AAP MLAs have defected. “Two MLAs are in jail, some unwell and some out of station,” he said.
The vote of confidence in the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was passed in the Delhi Assembly on Saturday, following Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s address. Earlier, addressing the Delhi Assembly, said he was confident his party would “rid the country of the BJP” in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. “Everyone has begun asking the question why are such relentless attacks being done against the AAP,” he said. “This is because if there is any challenger to the BJP in the whole country, it is the AAP.” A day earlier, Kejriwal moved a motion of confidence, in the Assembly, alleging a conspiracy to destabilise his government.
This comes after the Delhi CM skipped court summons on Saturday where the complaint of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against the CM for skipping repeated summons for questioning in the Delhi excise policy case was scheduled to be heard. Kejriwal stated that he wanted to appear today but was unable to do so due to the confidence motion and the budget session in Assembly. The AAP convener has also been summoned for the sixth time by the central probe agency on Monday.
Meanwhile, over seven people were injured as a temporary structure inside Gate Number 2 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi collapsed on Saturday. Those trapped in the rubble were rescued and taken to AIIMS Hospital. The incident took place when a marriage tent was being erected inside the stadium.
