Delhi Court on Friday granted CBI permission to lead the interrogation process and recording statement of K Kavitha, the BRS leader who is in jail now, which pertains to a Delhi financial policy scam where Delhi excise policy is under the limelight. The court delivered its verdict satisfying the central issue around the CBI agency’s plea of Kavitha’s questioning.
Another name associated with this issue is Kavitha, the daughter of TDP’s former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. She has also been arrested by Enforcement Directorate on March 15 in excise policy matter and is currently in Tihar jail. She not only became the third politician’s prominent arrest but also followed by the apprehension of AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Kejriwal, on 21st March, became the first head of a government to be arrested in such a situation.
As per the Enforcement Directorate’s key accusation against Kavitha, it’s that she was part of the ‘South Group’ that is said to have offered ₹100 crore to the AAP leaders in bribery in exchange for the nine retail zones that were forfeited because of the then-defunct principle. Besides Umashankar Reddy, other implicated persons in the ‘South Group’ include Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy MP (of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) , his son Raghav Magunta, Aurobindo Group promoter Sarath Reddy, and Delhi-based businessperson Sameer Mahendru.
On day of Kavitha’s arrest, she was in custody of the central agency till March 23. Thereafter, the court ordered the further extension of custody, which is now, last week, expired; she is now under a 14-day judicial detention.
On Thursday, the Tis Hazari Court in Delhi adjourned the hearing on the interim relief sought by Kavitha till April 9, the date of the next hearing. On the other hand, she had asked for the temporary release with her son’s examination in view to be within June.
