New Delhi: The National Railway Museum in Delhi was one of the organizations which reported a bomb threat through an email on Tuesday, sources said. A high-ranking officer from the police also established that the museum in question, situated in Chanakyapuri, had received an email with the threat.
After the museum staff reported the threat to the authorities they received, the Delhi Police and a bomb disposal team combed through the entire premises of the museum in search of the bomb, as suggested in the email. The initial manhunt after the search was conducted led authorities to conclude that the threat was a hoax.
For further details about this incident, Delhi Police’s observations are yet to be awaited. Besides, it only highlights that security agencies are still struggling to come up with ways to deal with threats to public domains and cultural heritage.
The National Railway Museum, a point of interest for tourists in Delhi, is an excellent place to be familiar with the historical buildings and collections of train models. Located in the central city, it has many visitors from all over the country, as well as foreigners.
This concerns security systems for such iconic structures to avoid fatalities of individuals attending the place or working there. The best course of action is the implementation of efficient acute response measures irrespective of whether the danger is actual or imagined so as to prevent negative effects as well as sustain people’s trust.
Such incidents bring to the forefront an element of embarrassment and caution in the handling of security threats in an ever-complex and uncertain modern-day environment. Police organizations must continue to be on the lookout as well as active in ensuring that lawlessness is suppressed in societies to avoid posing threats to lives and property.
