An email threat of bombing to Vijender Gupta on Tuesday created a huge security alarm at the Delhi Assembly and the elected Delhi Metro station at Vidhan Sabha. The threat was to blow up the two places and this alarmed the security agencies to take necessary measures.

After the threat, police and the bomb squads conducted massive searches within the Assembly premise and within the surrounding areas. The site videos depicted increased security and security checks. But the police verified that no suspicious device or bomb had been discovered in the process.

It was also reported that the email also included threats to some of the high profile leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, among others. These claims are being investigated by the officials in order to determine their authenticity or otherwise.

This event is one among a new trend of hoax threats in the city of Delhi and in recent weeks several schools and banks have received similar emails. There were evacuations and panic caused by previous cases and nothing was found.

The government has assured that they have put all the required security in place and that people should not panic as they probe.
