Delhi Best MLA Award: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday introduced a new award for MLAs. He announced the ‘Best MLA of the Year’ award, which will be given to the MLA who has performed outstandingly in the House. This annual award has been established to recognize and encourage legislative excellence. Giving information about the criteria required for the award, he said that it includes significant contribution in parliamentary debate, record of attendance in the House and maintaining discipline. Clarifying the purpose of the award, he said that it will motivate MLAs to maintain the highest parliamentary standards and actively participate in meaningful legislative discussions. MLAs will be selected for this award on the basis of their attendance, significant contribution, quality of speech, active participation in discussions and overall conduct.
An enlightenment program was organized for the newly elected MLAs in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, March 18, which continued till Wednesday, March 19. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the program, and all seven MPs from Delhi were also present. Om Birla said on this occasion that it is necessary to develop the Delhi Assembly as a ‘model assembly’.
Through a post on the social media platform X, Gupta said, ‘In the previous government, MLAs who showed excellence in the assembly did not get encouragement, but now this situation is changing. We have decided that every year the MLA who performs best in the House will be awarded the ‘Best MLA of the Year’ award.
He shared information on this subject at the conclusion of the two-day orientation program organized for the newly elected MLAs in the Delhi Assembly. In this training session, experts on parliamentary affairs provided in-depth information to the MLAs about legislative procedures, decorum of the House and their duties.
‘We will make Delhi a model assembly’
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said that many similar programs will be organized in the future. He said that as per the instructions of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, efforts will be made to develop the Delhi Assembly as an ideal assembly, and his guidance will be fully followed in this direction.
Vijender Gupta informed all the members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly that excellent lectures were presented on various topics related to legislature and legislative affairs in this two-day awareness programme. The programme began with the speech of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in which important issues like qualities of a good legislator, legislative and budget process, question hour, motions and resolutions, options for various discussions, committee system, parliamentary privileges, and information creation were discussed in depth.
Told the legislators how to remember the rules
Vijender Gupta said that he is confident that the members would have benefited greatly from this orientation program and gained basic knowledge of legislative work. In particular, they would have gained knowledge about legislative terminology. It is true that it is not possible for anyone to gain full proficiency in understanding the legislative process in a short time, as this subject is not simple. Instead of studying legislative rules, it would have been more effective to learn while using them.
