The people of Bastar will soon have air connectivity to Jabalpur and Delhi as the District Collectorate (DC) has approved the proposal of Air Alliance. The announcement of the dates for initiating air services on the new route is expected shortly.

Currently, airlines are operating flights from Jagdalpur to Raipur and Hyderabad. However, the residents of Bastar have long been demanding flight services on the Delhi and Jabalpur routes. It is reported that besides the DC, the state government will also play a role in launching flight services on the new route. Administrative preparations are already underway in this regard. Administrative officials have initiated discussions with airport authorities, focusing not only on necessary documentation but also on enhancing essential facilities at the airport.

Vijay Dayaram, the Collector of Bastar, mentioned that expansion work has commenced at the airport, including the extension of both the apron area and the non-apron area. Simultaneously, preparations are being made to make the runway ready for flights to land and take off from both ends. In addition to these developments, visibility has been a significant concern at the airport. To address this issue, the district administration is working to increase the capacity of the PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) and VASI (Visual Approach Slope Indicator) lights. The aim is to improve visibility from the existing 2,500 to 3,000 meters, as the previous visibility was around 5,000 meters, causing difficulties during fog or changing weather conditions.

Prior to these enhancements, the lower visibility often led to challenges during flight landings, resulting in flights being redirected to Hyderabad or Raipur on multiple occasions. The comprehensive efforts being undertaken by the administration are geared towards not only addressing past challenges but also ensuring a seamless and improved air travel experience for the residents of Bastar on the upcoming Delhi and Jabalpur routes.
