New Delhi: At a meeting with MLAs, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal proposed the name of Atishi as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. It was approved by all MLAs. Atishi has been selected as leader of the AAP legislative party. The decision came after a legislative party meeting was chaired by Arvind Kejriwal at his Delhi residence earlier today.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will resign from the post of Chief Minister today. CM Kejriwal had announced last Sunday (September 15) that he will resign from the post of CM after two days. He has sought time to meet LG VK Saxena at 4.30 pm. Before that, a new CM will be elected in the legislature party meeting at 11 am. 5 names are coming up for the new CM. These include the names of Delhi government minister Kailash Gehlot, Atishi, CM Kejriwal’s wife Sunita along with Saurabh Bhardwaj and Gopal Rai.
Earlier, a PAC meeting was held on Monday to elect the Chief Minister. The meeting was held at 5.30 pm at the Chief Minister’s residence. Kejriwal held one-to-one discussions with all the leaders. Opinion was sought from the PAC members on the new CM. Cabinet ministers of the Delhi government were also present in the meeting.
All AAP legislators are scheduled to gather at 11.30 a.m. to decide on the next CM. Mr. Kejriwal and his former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia met at the former’s residence on Monday to discuss potential candidates to lead the Delhi government, after which the party’s political affairs committee (PAC) gathered for further discussions.
