On Wednesday, Atishi declared that the Government of Delhi had directed the Discoms to stop insisting on NOCs from the DDA for new power connections in 1,731 unauthorized colonies. This decision should help bring electricity to people living in these districts without unnecessary red tape.

The AAP leader then took the BJP Government to task for making it difficult for individuals residing in unauthorized colonies to get electricity connections. She emphasized that for the last year, people have been left to struggle to obtain power connections for their homes and establishments mainly because of a DDA order from the BJP-led union government. This order stated that electricity connections could only be given if the residents secured NOCs and were out of land pooling zones.

Similarly, Atishi has accused the AP government of profiting from NOC requirements since locals had to pay bribes to secure these certificates. She described numerous issues that the NOC mandate brought to the residents, and now, the Delhi government has finally abolished it for 1,731 unauthorized colonies. ”Now residents can get electricity connections without the NOCs hassles, and the customers should be able to receive their electricity meter in less than fifteen days,” she said.

Moreover, Atishi criticized the DDA for rendering the lives of these residents hard, saying that the AAP government under the Arvind Kejriwal administration shall support residents of unauthorized colonies. She said that those willing to pay bribes and wanted to get their NOCs easily and those who insisted on the right thing endured delays and barriers.

Talking about the state of unauthorized colonies, Atishi said that, ten years back, such colonies did not even have the minimum infrastructure facilities and basic amenities. However, she pointed out that the AAP government has brought considerable changes for the better.
