Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi alleges that the AAP defeated the BJP in a ‘political witch hunt’ on the North Campus against Aam Aadmi Party’s Satyendar Jain. This is following the aspects of the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filing a case against Jain under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act in relation to a ₹571 crore scandal involving the installation of CCTVs.

In a social media platform X, Atishi shared a document on the BJP government’s reply in Parliament showing that while 193 cases were filed by the ED against political leaders in the past 10 years, only 2 made it to the conviction. She further stated, “When investigating agencies leave their work and start political witch-hunting on the orders of the boss”, suggesting that the action against Jain was politically motivated rather than factual.

Now, Satyendar Jain has been accused of ‘arbitrarily’ letting off ₹16 crore penalty to BEL, given the residents’ complaints about non-functional CCTV cameras. Speaking to the press, the Joint Commissioner of Police (ACB) Madhur Verma said that the current probe focuses on fourteen alleged irregularities made by Jain on behalf of the contractor that went against the official procedures.

On the other hand, Delhi BJP president Virendra S Acharya also jumped into the news and accused Jain of corrupt practices and charged that Kejriwal had been protecting Jain by shielding him for years and even dubbed him as corrupt, which took ₹7 crore bribe.

In such fluidity in politics, the case has emerged as a fresh AAP-BJP conflict, with AAP leadership terming it a political vendetta while the politicians of BJP demanding a probe.
