New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, the capital’s air quality index (AQI) remained in the ‘poor’ category. The city recorded an AQI of 258 at 9:05 am, improving from 365 at 8 am on Tuesday. As per the official data, in the Alipur area and Ashok Vihar, the AQI readings stood at 260 and 288, respectively, at 7 am. In ITO, the AQI was recorded at 381, falling in the ‘very poor’ category, while Aya Nagar logged an AQI of 184 which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. The weather office has predicted a cloudy sky with the possibility of drizzle during the day.
Meanwhile, the Delhi high Court dismissed a plea challenging the vires of a central government notification for induction of Army officers under the Judge Advocate General (JAG) cadre mandating CLAT PG 2023 score as the eligibility qualification. A division bench of acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Mini Pushkarna orally observed, “They (Centre) have made it an essential eligibility criteria. For the 30th, 31st and 32nd exams also, they had the same eligibility criteria…This is an Army matter. Public interest is not meant for this. Anyone who is aggrieved can come to the court itself. This is not a fit case for PIL.”
“The air quality forecasts by the India Meteorological Department/Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology do not indicate the average air quality of Delhi to move to the ‘severe’ category in the coming days for which forecast is available,” highlighted CAQM.
While Stage-3 restrictions are rescinded, the measures under Stage 1 and 2 will persist and be subject to continuous monitoring. This approach aims to prevent any deterioration in air quality in the NCR and adjoining areas.
