A fugitive Indian crime suspect and wanted by police since the year 2007, Anmol Bishnoi came to Delhi on Wednesday after being deported by the US. On reaching there, a group of National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him and brought him to the court of Patiala House. When he comes back to India, it also becomes a breakthrough to law enforcement agencies that have hunted him down in numerous high profile criminal cases.

On November 18, Anmol was deported by the US following months of collaboration between the Indian and American government. His suspicion is likely to give impetus to the ongoing investigations and give vital clues in a number of big cases associated with organized crime in India. Police officials have highlighted that this is a decisive move towards putting downward pressure on the activities of the Bishnoi gang which has been associated with a series of violent acts in the nation.

Anmol Bishnoi is already under prosecution on a minimum of 18 criminal cases in India, among the most notorious ones. Some of them include the conspiracy to kill a former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, the assassination of the Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, and the high-profile shooting outside the house of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. It is in these cases that he is supposed to have played a significant role, making him a top target of the law enforcement agencies, which have over the years been following him around the globe.

The police should interrogate Anmol to the fullest to find out the information about his participation in previous crimes and current activities of the Bishnoi gang. According to security agencies, his deportation highlights the power of cross-border cooperation in addressing cross-border crime. The NIA shall now take him before the court in order to carry out legal formalities after which investigations on his supposed criminal activities are likely to be speeded up.
