New Delhi: In another hoax threat, security agencies evacuated the Air Canada flight today morning after the social media team of Indira Gandhi International Airport received an email claiming it was carrying a bomb.
The aircraft with 301 passengers and 16 crew members onboard were evacuated and diverted to the isolation bay for security checks. Although the officials found nothing suspicious, the flight was later canceled, Air Canada has not issued any official statement on the incident.
It is crucial to note that this is the fourth bomb scare in a month. DGP, Usha Rangnani said that the police received information about the email from Delhi International Airport at 10:50 PM on Tuesday.
“The email so received said that there was a bomb on the flight scheduled to depart for Toronto”, said the DGP. “Standard security protocols, a thorough inspection was conducted to ensure that no suspicious item was found/ legal action has been initiated in the case”, she further added.
This is not the first incident of a bomb scare. Earlier on Saturday, a bomb scare email was received on a flight bound from Varanasi to Delhi at IGI Airport. On May 28, a paper with the words ‘bomb blast at 5:30’ was found in an aircraft’s lavatory that led to the evacuation of all 176 passengers from the plane. On May 16, a similar message on Air India Delhi to Varanasi flight was received that led all passengers to de-board. On February 27, a threat was received on the Delhi to Kolkata flight that turned out to be a hoax. The flight departed after a delay of six and a half hours.
