The Election Commission (EC) of India requested and made it mandatory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to redraft its Lok Sabha campaign song as it had mentioned Arvind Kejriwal’s detention, which the EC considered as an attack against the judiciary. The Commission noted that such promo lies are inconsistent with the provisions of the guidelines and advertising rules.
AAP has been commanded to make the amendment on the campaigning lyrics and submit it again for authentication.
In March, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate regarding the Delhi liquor policy case. AAP alleges that his arrest was orchestrated by the BJP to hinder his participation in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However, the Delhi High Court recently upheld his arrest.
This phrase “justice we will deliver while in jail” portrays the aggressive crowd at the back holding Kejriwal’s photo behind bars, and it raises concern about the integrity of the judiciary, the Election Commission claimed. Fast Food Outlet is seen violating the guidelines of the ECI in the form of the repeated appearance of the phrase Rule 6(1)(g) under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994.
An AAP member, Atishi, claimed that their election song was banned by the Election Commission; unfortunately, this is what BJP is known for doing before elections. The song marked the first instance of the Indian election commission banning a political party’s campaign song, she pointed out.
From Atishi’s perspective, the election office did not suspend BJP leaders who violated the election’s mode code of conduct.
