Seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, including a minor, were detained by the Delhi Police from different parts of east Delhi and Ghaziabad. According to the officials, the deportation process has been initiated with the help of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
The detainees are Dilawar Khan (48), Beauty Begum (39), Rafikul (43), Tauhid (20), Md Azhar (28), Zakir Malik (40), and a 15-year-old girl, he added. According to them, these people illegally entered India through the river routes and were staying in different areas of the Delhi NCR region.
Tip-Off Leads to Major Crackdown
On March 16, based on intelligence inputs, the police detained Dilawar Khan of Krishna Nagar area of Delhi. Later, he said he was a resident of West Bengal, but after persistent interrogation and verification, he was found to be a Bangladeshi from the Khulna district of Bangladesh.
The investigations further showed six more Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the Laxmi Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Seemapuri, and Shalimar Garden areas of Ghaziabad. All six people were detained during a series of raids at these locations.
Ongoing Crackdown on Illegal Immigration
It is part of an ongoing campaign to ferret out illegal immigrants that began last December. Following in February, a high-level meeting between the Union Home Minister and other top officials as Delhi chief minister, after which the crackdown intensified. Authorities have taken measures to determine the foreign nationals who have crossed the country illegally and are now residing here.
Authorities are looking to catch way more people connected to the detained immigrants.
