At least six people were injured after a fire broke out at restaurants in south Delhi’s INA market early on Monday, officials said.
The fire was initiated at a fast food restaurant, Kerala Restaurant, located in shop number 211 near INA Metro Station’s gate 2, at 3:18 am. It took no time to spread at an adjacent restaurant. The fire broke out at Seven fire trucks were sent to the scene and took about two hours to control the blaze, according to a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official. According to the Delhi Fire Services officials, six to eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
In the incident, a part of the roof of one of the restaurants collapsed. The fire erupted from a Chinese restaurant and spread to the restaurant next door. Six people suffered burns and were admitted to the hospital for treatment while the cause of fire is still under investigation.
The fire caused injuries to some restaurant workers who were asleep inside. The blaze also damaged two nearby Chinese fast-food restaurants in shops 213 and 214.
Two injured persons, Sunil (46) and Ashki Nepali (26), were taken to AIIMS, while four others—Arun (18), Shiva (26), Shiv Kumar (24), and Girish (42)—were admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. Their injuries range from 20 to 70 percent burns, officials said.
