New Delhi. Delhi, which has the largest fleet of electric buses in the country, will soon receive 2,800 more e-buses. These buses will be made available under the central government’s PM E-DRIVE Scheme. According to reports, all the new buses will join Delhi’s public transport fleet in phases through 2026. These buses will be deployed on various routes across the city, providing passengers with a better and more convenient journey.

The capital will soon receive 2,800 new electric buses, which will be inducted in a phased manner this year under the central government’s PM E-DRIVE Scheme. With the addition of these buses, the total number of buses in Delhi will increase to around 9,000. This will not only expand bus services but also reduce waiting times for passengers. Recently, the Delhi government also inducted 300 new electric buses into its fleet, taking the total number of buses in the capital to 6,100, of which 4,338 are electric.

According to the Transport Department, the supply of buses under this scheme will begin soon and will be rolled out in phases. Of these 2,800 buses, 1,380 will be given to the DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation), while 1,420 will be allocated to the Delhi Transport Department. All these buses will be deployed on the capital’s roads, providing passengers with more convenient and comfortable travel. Significantly, the buses have been designed to suit the needs of different routes. 12-meter-long buses will operate on main and busy routes, while 9-meter and 7-meter-long buses will operate on narrow and inner roads.

According to the Transport Department, in addition to these 2,800 buses, a request for 3,330 more electric buses has been sent to the central government. It is expected that these buses will be delivered by next year. Thus, Delhi could receive a total of 6,130 new electric buses in the next two years. The Delhi government has set clear targets for promoting electric mobility in the capital. The government says that by 2029, the number of electric buses in Delhi will be increased to 12,000. Additionally, there are plans to convert the entire bus fleet to fully electric.
