New Delhi: The scheme providing affordable and respectable meals in the capital Delhi has received a major expansion. With the opening of 24 new Atal Canteens, the total number in the city has increased to 70. Vinay Kumar Saxena and Rekha Gupta were present at the inauguration ceremony, held digitally from Nursery Basti in Krishna Nagar. Following the ceremony, the two leaders shared a meal with the public and reviewed the scheme’s arrangements.

Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena stated that the opening of the new Atal Canteens will further strengthen the availability of affordable meals in various areas of the capital. He stated that this initiative is proving to be a major relief, especially for the economically weaker sections. According to him, providing nutritious meals at affordable rates is directly benefiting daily wage laborers, the needy, and low-income groups. The Lieutenant Governor stated that the government’s goal is to expand this scheme to as many areas of the city as possible, so that no needy person remains hungry and can receive food with dignity.

Rekha Gupta stated that the government’s new canteen initiative has been designed with the working class and low-income groups in mind. She added that providing nutritious and balanced meals for just five rupees is the government’s primary responsibility. The Chief Minister directed officials to strictly adhere to food quality, cleanliness, and taste standards so that the needy can receive food with dignity. The Chief Minister also clarified that the scheme is being operated with complete transparency and is aimed at providing relief to those who earn their living daily, including daily wage laborers.
