New Delhi: 18 people have died in the stampede case at New Delhi Railway Station. These include 14 women and 3 children. More than 25 people are injured. The dead include 9 from Bihar and 8 from Delhi, including one from Haryana. A high-level investigation team of the railways has been formed to investigate the case. President Draupadi Murmu has expressed grief over the incident.

The accident happened between platforms 13, 14, and 15. Crowds started gathering at the station at 4 p.m. to go to Maha Kumbh. At around 8:30 p.m., three trains going to Prayagraj got delayed, which increased the crowd and caused a stampede.

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed condolences over the deaths by tweeting. Just 20 minutes later, LNJP confirmed the death of 15 people. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

At the same time, according to sources, a huge crowd had gathered at the station due to the cancellation of two trains going to Prayagraj. After the sudden announcement of train cancellation, the passengers panicked, which led to chaos and a stampede. 14 people have been admitted to NJP Hospital, including women. Sources said that these people were admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state.
