New Delhi: At least 16 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via an email in the early hours of Friday, triggering a multi-agency search of the premises, the Delhi Police said. After a detailed investigation, police declared the threats as hoaxes since nothing suspicious was found.
These schools include Delhi Public School in East of Kailash, Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar, Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar and Cambridge School in Srinivas Puri, among others. The email asked the schools to “reply back” to check the demands of the sender.
This follows a similar incident on December 9, when at least 44 schools received bomb threat emails, which police later deemed hoaxes. A Delhi Fire Services official said that calls regarding the threat emails were received from Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar (4:21 am), Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri (6:23 am), DPS Amar Colony in East of Kailash (6:35 am), and one other school.
Terming the bomb threat emails as “extremely serious and worrying”, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a post on X said that it can “badly affect children”.
“This is the second time this week that Delhi schools have received bomb threats, which is extremely serious and worrying. If this continues, how badly will it affect the children? What will happen to their studies?” the AAP chief said.
The fire department, police, bomb detection teams, and dog squads have arrived at the schools to conduct checks. School authorities have informed parents not to send their children to school for classes today.
