On Saturday, the Congress party declared its second list of 22 candidates for the Maharashtra assembly polls, which is slated for November 20.
This came immediately after a key session of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) where efforts and plans towards elections were being put and slotted respectively.
One of the rather interesting features of this candidate list is the Nagpur South, which is an electoral stronghold of both Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT). The Congress has neatly captured this population group; Girish Krushnarao Pandav has been nominated as Congress candidate for Nagpur South. This is expected to enhance the operational capability of Congress in an area where they have been battling for market share with stiff rigs.
Besides Nagpur South, the congress has declared its candidates for three Mumbai constituencies only. Ganesh Kumar Yadav will contest for the party from Sion-Koliwada to take advantage of the support he is likely to get and meet the basic needs of the people of the constituency. Yashwant Singh will be the party candidate for the Charkop and Kalu Badheliya for Kandivali East. These selections show that the party has much coverage of both urban and suburban areas as they try to recover their initial position in the politics of Maharashtra.
The Congress party is rearing up for a tough battle as they are hunted by various parties, including the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This latest list of candidates is strategic and is helping Congress to form a strong party front and send the right and strong message to Maharastra about its electoral policies. Some of the party choices that bear the prospects for the party’s campaign benefit that they are likely to appeal to the voters in the forthcoming assembly elections in order to garner as many seats as possible.
