Mumbai: The actual campaign of the Congress party for Maharashtra assembly elections will be launched on Tuesday, August 20, in Mumbai. The participation will most remember the event of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders – Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar – and the Congress party’s Rahul Gandhi. The further rally taken out on the occasion of the birthday of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, will also be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala.
The rally will start at 3 pm at Shanmukanand Auditorium, and then a large rally will be organized at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The launch of this campaign is likely to be a major one since it will be initiated by the three constituent parties of MVA: Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena UBT. These parties have committed to fighting the next Maharashtra assembly elections as an alliance, but the exact sharing of seats is still being negotiated.
By this campaign launch, which may be imminent with the elections approaching, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar remain vital for MVA. The coalition goes on considering who the suitable candidate should be to take up the position of the chief minister of Maharashtra, with Thackeray urging the coalition’s leaders to expedite the process if the coalition is to present a compact electoral plan.
In the last Lok Sabha election, the MVA combine had a very large influence, winning 30 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra and bringing the BJP vote down from 23 in the last elections to a mere 14 this time. It has given the confidence to the coalition to go into the assembly elections with voter success.
The ECI has recently issued the dates and schedule for assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. Still, to date, it has not been able to release the same for Maharashtra. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the monsoon season is ongoing in the country, and there are many festivals in Maharashtra. He also recalled that the preceding general elections in Maharashtra and Haryana were held together.
