Chirag Paswan, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Union Minister, has forecasted that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take his oath once again as the chief minister of the state after the upcoming elections in the Bihar state assembly later this year. Although Paswan recently regretted his stand on supporting the Nitish-led government, he seemed to be reiterating his faith in Kumar as a leader embodying the NDA system.

Addressing a press meet at a function, the Union Food Processing Minister made it emphatic once again by expressing that he strongly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that the NDA is an unbeatable combination in Bihar. “I have repeatedly said this: my loyalty and support are with Prime Minister Modi. His leadership is what the Bihar elections will be based on, and there is zero chance that Nitish Kumar will not be Chief Minister again,” according to Paswan.

Chirag Paswan was a former ally of the Nitish Kumar-led government and just two days back had spoken against the government, accusing it of surrendering to criminal groups. His new comments, however, can only point to a policy of strategic political positioning linked with the larger purposes of the NDA in Bihar.

Of late, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar has gained more traction as questions started being raised over its conduct in the State. Paswan could be seen clearing the air over the matter, pointing out how the process had been implemented several times already, with only a major shift being the incorporation of digital platforms. In previous times, human beings had to travel physically. It has gone online now. It is more accessible, he said.

Rebutting the claims made by the Opposition on the allegation of voter roll manipulation, Paswan rejected any allegation, saying no material evidence was brought forward. According to him, the removal was targeted at those who were registered unsuccessfully, but not at the legal voters. He also emphasised why it is important to make sure the intruders do not make use of the electoral process.

Paswan also implicated the Opposition in criticising the Indian Army by using the excuse of being a proxy when it came to criticising Prime Minister Modi, specifically during Operation Sindoor.
