A breakage occurred in the house of a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at the CSEB Colony area, Korba, whereat thieves broke in the house, when it was unoccupied. The house was locked up and the family of the retired officer had taken out of town to a funeral. To be on the safe side, the house keys were surrendered to a neighbour and a relative.

As the family went back home on Saturday, they were appalled to notice that the main lock was broken. As they entered the house, they found that the almirah was forced open and the valuable jewellery that was worth about 10 lakh dollars was missing. The stolen ornaments were those bought to use in the coming wedding of the daughter of the retired ASI.

This case is within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station. The victim is a retired ASI by the name of Galetbin Kumar who retired on December 31. He told the police that the jewellery was securely put in the house with special intentions of preparing a wedding.

Frightened by the incident, the teams of police arrived on the scene instantly. A dog squad and forensic experts were also summoned to gather evidence and look at the crime scene. Neighbours and relatives are also being questioned by the investigators to get information about any suspicious activity in the region when the family is away.

Besides, police are scanning the CCTV footage of houses and streets around the area of the incidents in order to trace the movements of the suspects. An investigation has been registered and more effort is being made to identify and arrest the people who were involved in the theft. The police have also confirmed that every possible avenue is under consideration so as to recover the stolen property and also, resolve the case within the shortest time possible.
