A large-scale panic was also reported in Raipur in the fierce and late Monday night in the Baijnath Para area when a young man of Youth Congress reportedly took a rampage with a high-speed SUV causing panic among the locals. As the eyewitnesses attest, a black Scorpio was speeding around the area and crashed into various parked cars. Individuals who were on the ground just escaped with minor injuries and several vehicles were destroyed in the accident. The video footage of the incident has been leaked by CCTV and has been reportedly connected to the case.
The accused was identified as Rahul Thakur, state secretary of the Youth Congress, as sources in the police reportedly said that the accused was travelling in the vehicle with his associates. According to locals, Thakur was driving the Scorpio at a high speed and intentionally hitting parked cars and causing havoc in the residential neighborhood. Furious locals supposedly grabbed hold on Rahul Thakur and his associates and beat them up prior to their escaping the location and the car.
After the incident, enraged villagers visited the Kotwali police station at the end of the night to file a complaint. On the complaint, police arrested Rahul Thakur and Paras Wadhwa on suspicion. Officials said that further inquiry on the issue is being conducted.
This is not the first controversy that Rahul Thakur has been involved in. Police records show that on July 28, 2024, he had attended Woodland Restaurant in Serikhedi with friends at around 11.30 pm, where he got stuck in an argument with restaurant employees after finishing dinner. The conflict ended up in verbal abuse after which the group walked out of the premises.
The next day, from 4.30 pm to 5 pm, Rahul Thakur supposedly came back to the restaurant carrying 1015 associates. The group is reported to have broken in, assaulted employees, and destroyed property, including sofas, chairs, glass panels, television, refrigerators, CCTV cameras, and a DJ system.
