Bilaspur: During covert surveillance at Bilaspur Railway Station, a young man was apprehended with the intention of stealing from passengers. Seizing the suspect, authorities confiscated 11 stolen mobile phones valued at Rs. 1,32,524. Following the registration of the case, the accused youth was presented in court, leading to his incarceration.
Identified as Deepak Sahu alias Ankit, residing in Korba, he revealed during questioning that he engaged in pilfering mobiles from train passengers. He confessed to coming to the station to steal and sell mobile phones. Upon inspecting the backpack he carried, officials discovered 11 Android smartphones from various companies.
Upon inquiry, the youth disclosed that he targeted mobiles left for charging on trains. The seized 11 mobiles were taken to the Bilaspur GRP (Government Railway Police) station, where formal legal proceedings were initiated against him under Section 41 (1-4) Cr. P.C. and Section 379 IPC. The accused was presented before the court, resulting in his imprisonment.
The court, after due consideration, deemed it necessary to incarcerate the accused. The incident underscores the importance of vigilant security measures at railway stations to curb theft and safeguard passengers’ belongings. Authorities remain committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring swift action against those involved in criminal activities on railway premises.
