Chhattisgarh: A body of a female wild elephant was found in the jungles of Rajpur in north Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district on Thursday morning. Notably, within three days, this is the third wild elephant died in the state and all are female elephant.
For the last couple of days, an elephant herd was wandering in the Surajpur district area of Chhattisgarh. Two wild elephants among them, one being 20 months pregnant, were found dead on Tuesday. For one of the elephants, a postmortem was managed to be conducted by the forest officials which showed that the pregnant elephant had a cyst in its liver and some issues in the spleen that might have led to its death.
Whilst on the contrary, as of late Wednesday the body of the other couldn’t be retrieved as it was surrounded by her herd. However, the deaths were confirmed by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (wildlife) Arun Kumar Pandey.
He said that all three wild elephants did not appear to have died of natural causes, but clarity would emerge after their post-mortem reports are made available.
They were found about 400 km away from the state’s capital, Raipur. In the forest range of Pratappur, the carcasses were found at two separate places in Ganeshpur area. “While the pregnant elephant died because of a liver ailment in the early hours of Tuesday, the carcass of another female pachyderm was yet to be recovered as a herd is surrounding it,” a district forest official said.
A few days back, the death of another pregnant elephant in Kerala has left the country devastated. A cracker filled pineapple was fed to her which later burst in her mouth resulting in death of both the mother and the unborn child. The incident has left people in aw and questioning the mere fact of whether humanity still exists or not?
Following with the wrongs happening to the elephants in the nation, a fifty year old man from Janipur in Pluwari Sharif near Patna in Bihar, Mohammad Akhtar has donated his entire land to two elephants. Moti aged 20 and Rani aged 15 who now live with him.
