Bilaspur: A woman in Parasi village of Marwahi forest division zone, died on the spot after a wild elephant attacked on Thursday. However, her eight-year-old grandson managed to escape the incident and suffered minor injuries.
Reportedly, Dhaniya Bai (40 years) and her grandson were attacked in the morning when they ventured into the forest, said Marwahi divisional forest officer Dinesh Patel. The child who suffered injuries is being treated at a community health service centre, Marwahi.
The state govt has issued a relief of Rs 25,000 to the kin of the deceased, officials said.
Notably, conflicts between the wild elephants and the humans in the forests of Northern Chhattisgarh have been on the rise. Dense areas of Surguja, Korba, Surajpur, Raigarh, Jashpur and Korea district have reported several tuskers and widespread damage to houses and crops in recent times.
