Chhattisgarh: The tribal society of Chhattisgarh staged a protest today in nearly 15 districts. Under the leadership of Sarva Adivasi Samaj, the tribal union has blocked several highways across the state. Members of the tribal committee blocked the Manpur Railway track in the Balod district.
The protest began at 11 am today morning and has seen a significant increase in its participants. Individuals in districts Rajhara, Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Bilaspur, Raigad, Gariaband, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Dantewada and Sarguja have actively demonstrated.
Speaking about the protest, Sarava Samaj President BS Rawtae expressed displeasure with the state governments commitments. Laying down the demands of the protest he stated that the government failed to implement the extension of Panchayats, failed to procure justice to the victims of Silger and also failed to provide promotion of employees in the general category in govt offices. “We started the movement from July 19, since we have seen no developments of our demands, the protest will intensify,” he added.
A detailed document by the Sarva Adivasi Samaj revealed the demands that included Rs50 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of Silger incident and Rs 5 lakh to the injured. They also demanded govt employment as per qualification to one of the members of the deceased. A reprisal of the promotion done under SC/ST castes was also laid forth. 100 per cent reservation was demanded the recruitment of Class III and Class V employees of the fifth schedule areas. Additionally, they also recommended a share in the project rather than land sale for owners whose land is acquired for mineral mining. Strict action was demanded in case of Fake caste certificates generated.
