Raipur: Two truck drivers were killed on the spot in a collision between trucks near Bemetra in the early hours of Tuesday. The accident was so severe that one driver’s head was severed from his body, police and others took a long time to retrieve his body from the mangled truck using heavy equipment. The deceased driver was a resident of Singarauli in Madhya Pradesh.
During the incident, people started looting onions instead of helping the injured truckdriver Pilu Shah who succumbed to his injuries, said the police. According to the police, the truck laden with cement was heading toward Madhya Pradesh when its front tyre burst near village Gunnarbod on the NH.
The truck control and collided with another truck which on going from Kawardha to Raipur carrying onions. The driver of the truck carrying cement, Anju Saket, died on the spot. The other truck driver Pilu Sahu was severely injured and was trapped inside, but the local gathered were busy in collecting and taking away onions that were lying around after the truck overturned. By the time police came, Pilu Sahu succumbed to his injuries.
Bodies of both the drivers have been sent for post-mortem. Police said the the truck carrying cement was overloaded. A case has been registered.
