Once again, security forces in Chhattisgarh have foiled a big Naxal plot and prevented potential loss of life. A five-kilogram pressure cooker IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was found during a routine search operation in a dense forest region in the Gattakal areas under the jurisdiction of the Kohkameta police station. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) safely defused the bomb on site, displaying the alertness and coordination of the forces involved.

Action has been taken after Maoists planted IEDs, which have been instrumental in causing substantial damage recently, in Narayanpur, Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar said. BDS teams have also been deployed to the different regions to locate and destroy hidden explosives as a preventive measure. The operation on April 15 was jointly conducted by the personnel of the District Police Force, 53rd Battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the groups of the ITS. From Mohandi Camp, the team left and participated in area domination exercises in and around the village of Gattakal.

The IED that had been placed along a hilly trail in the forest was spotted by them during the operation. On the vigilance and expertise of the joint team, the bomb was neutralized without incident and was targeted to take out patrolling security forces.

To date in 2025, security forces have recovered more than 16 IEDs in various parts of the state, evidence enough of the Maoist attempts to disrupt peace and instill fear in the region. But, there is a growing effectiveness of anti-naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, as evidenced by the increasing number of successful detections and defusals. Although authorities claim they remain on high alert, they are still performing search and area domination exercises to fight the persistent threat that the insurgents pose.
