Lormi: The tribal community in Khudiya forest range under the Mungeli district is demanding action against the Deputy Ranger for arbitrary behavior. The community, outraged by alleged atrocities, has launched a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Lormi SDM, urging action under the Atrocities Act.
The memorandum highlights an incident involving Bhaduram Kolam, a resident of Chacherdi village and daily wage laborer working in the Khudiya forest area. A few days ago, the Deputy Ranger, Prabal Dubey, allegedly called him to the Karidongari government residence and verbally abused him, followed by a physical attack with a deadly weapon. As a result, Bhaduram suffered injuries on his left hand, and his mobile phone, kept in his pocket, was damaged. During the incident, other department staff present intervened to stop the assault.
Bhaduram Kolam had filed a written complaint about the incident at the Khudiya police station a few days earlier. Despite two weeks passing, no action has been taken. In response, the aggrieved staff, along with other members of the Scheduled Tribe community, submitted a memorandum to the SDM, demanding the immediate removal of the Khudiya police station in-charge and immediate action under section 151 of the Scheduled Tribes Act against the Deputy Ranger.
In opposition to these demands, the Scheduled Tribe community’s officials and other individuals visited the SDM office. They also demanded the immediate removal of the Khudiya police station in-charge and warned of an intense agitation in Lormi assembly constituency number 26, boycotting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections if immediate action is not taken within 10 days. They stated that the responsibility for any agitation would lie with the administration.
Lormi’s SDM, Giridhari Lal, confirmed receiving the Tribal community’s memorandum, assuring that appropriate action would be taken after investigation. Meanwhile, the District President of the Scheduled Tribe Society, Aakt Dhruv, warned of an intense agitation if prompt action is not taken on both demands.
