BHILAI: In a major fire break out in Bhilai Sector 9, 26 huts caught fire said, an officials. The incident took place on the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday added the official.

Probe into the matter revealed that the huts caught fire from a fire that was lit to burn the garbage in its vicinity. As per reports, no casualties were reported, however, a heavy loss of materials was reported. The houses are said to have charred to ashes. The incident was reported to the fire department by the passerby On receiving the information, a team of police officials along with the rescue team rushed to the spot. Bhilai Corporation Mayor Neeraj Pal and Bhilai Municipal Corporation MLA Devendra Yadav also arrived to take stock of the situation.

Sector 9 in Bhilai is home to individuals of lower middle class who work as an attendant in the hospital at Sector 9 to earn a livelihood. During the incident, it is said that only children and elderly people were at home while the adults were on their job.

The indiscriminate garbage burning by squatters dumped in residential areas has also been a threat to rehabilitations.
