CHHATTISGARH: In a first, transgender officers from Bastar fighters in CG will participate in the Republic Day parade to be held in Lal Bagh ground Jagdalpur this year. CM Bhupesh Baghel will also participate in the program.
For the first time, third-gender personnel from ‘Bastar Fighters’ will take part in the Republic Day Parade at Jagdalpur on Thursday, a senior police officer said. Interacting with the media on Tuesday- IGP Bastar Sundarraj said- “This is the first time the third gender would be included in the parade. It will send a positive message to the region. The people in the Bastar region are really excited about all this.”
The inclusion of transgender personnel in the parade will display quality in society, and the community will be able to join mainstream celebrations.
The Bastar Fighters force is the special unit in the Chhattisgarh Police department deployed in the Maoist-hit areas of Bastar. Around 9 transgendder candidates were recruited by CG Polcie dept in August last year to be a part of the Bastat Fighters unit. The transgender candidates were among 608 others who were selected for the role. Earlier in this recruitment drive, 13 transgender people were already serving in the Bastar Fighters force.
Bastar Fighters came into existence in 2020 with aim to releif local population of Bastar. The officers int the unit aretrained at grass roots level of Bastat to understand local areas better.
