BIJAPUR: In a major success for security forces, a central committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) was killed in an encounter in the Indravati National Park area of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday. The slain Maoist has been identified as Sudhakar, a senior leader whose death was confirmed by a top Chhattisgarh police officer.
This significant development comes barely a month after another prominent Maoist leader, Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraju, was similarly neutralized in an encounter in Chhattisgarh, indicating sustained pressure on the extremist group.
The operation, meticulously planned and executed, involved a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) units. According to a statement issued by Bastar police, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of senior Maoist leaders in the dense forest region.
Officials revealed that intelligence inputs had pointed to the presence of several high-ranking Maoist cadres in the area. Among those specifically mentioned in the intelligence briefs were Telangana State Committee member Bandi Prakash and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee member Pappa Rao, alongside Sudhakar. The successful elimination of Sudhakar marks a substantial blow to the Maoist hierarchy and their operational capabilities in the region. Security forces continue their efforts to dismantle the Maoist network in Chhattisgarh
