Khairagarh: In a major success on the Naxal front in Khairagarh district of Chhattisgarh, top CPI (Naxalites) leader and Central Committee member Ramdher Majji surrendered along with 11 of his associates. The surrender took place this morning in village Kumhi, Bakar Katta police station, where all the cadres laid down their arms and surrendered to the police.
Security agencies are considering this move as a decisive blow to the Naxalite structure, as this entire group was an active part of the MMC—Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh—Special Zonal Committee, which had its presence in six districts of the three states.
Ramdher Majji’s surrender with an AK-47 is being considered the biggest break in the Naxalite organization. Along with him, DVCM-ranked Chandu Usendi, Lalita, Janaki, and Prem also surrendered, two of whom were armed with AK-47s and INSAS weapons. ACM-level Naxalites Ramsingh Dada and Sukesh Pottam also surrendered, while Lakshmi, Sheela, Yogita, Kavita, and Sagar of the Regional Women’s Militia (PM) surrendered to the police. Weapons including AK-47s, INSASs, SLRs, 303s, and 30 carbines were recovered from the group.
This surrender has rendered the MMC Special Zone virtually ineffective. Earlier, MMC Zone spokesperson Anant had surrendered in Gondia, while in the past day, Surendra and nine other Maoists have surrendered in Balaghat. This series of surrenders indicates that the Naxalite organization’s ground hold is rapidly weakening and the security forces’ strategy is proving effective.
All 12 Naxalites are now in police custody and their interrogation has begun. The police will soon hold a press conference to provide detailed information about the entire operation and the Naxalite network.
