Mahasamund: In an outrageous incidence, a bear attack harmed three villagers in Bidora village situated under the Komakhan area. The primary treatment was done at the Bagbahara Community Health Centre, with the victims being referred to the Mahasamund Medical College, where advanced medical care was provided.

The villagers of Bidora, which is in the Bagbahara forest range, had entered the forest when, as we are told, they were assaulted by two adult bears, with two cubs. The animals, with supposed agitation, rushed at the people in the village without any notice.

The injured from the bear attack are known to be Danbai Thakur (60), Chhabilal Sahu (49) and Savitri Thakur (40). All three had sustained numerous injuries, including head injuries, hand injuries and injuries to the waist. Those locals who were present at the time of the incident rushed to rescue them, and they were able to extricate the victims from the forest before notifying the authorities.

Officials of the forest rushed to the scene and ordered medical help. The victims were taken to Mahasamund Medical College, where they were to receive additional care following their injuries, since they were severe and needed first aid at the local health centre.

The Forest Department has given out 500 as early relief money to the injured people. Authorities have also begun investigations into the case and have cautioned the locals to be more careful when visiting forested regions, particularly in the early mornings and evening hours when wild animals are most active.

Such incidences accentuate the increase in human-wildlife conflict in areas near thick forests, where frequent contact between the villagers and the wild animals is increasingly becoming a major concern. The department has made sure that measures will be put in place to ensure that the movements of the bears in the area are monitored so that future attacks will be avoided.
