MANENDRAGARH: A leopard attack was reported Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district on Sunday evening, a forest official said. This was the third incident of leopard attack in less than a month in the district, he said.
A leopard attacked Karan Randaman Baiga (45) when he was returning from his farmland in Kunwari village under Janakpur forest range, Manendragarh’s Divisional Forest Officer Loknath Patel said. On seeing the big cat, the locals immediately alerted forest personnel. The villager died on the spot, however, angered by the attacks the villagers cornered the leopard and demanded immediate action.
The forest officials have installed camera’s in the forest to track the leopard’s movements. Residents have been urged to stay alert.
The victim’s kin were given an immediate relief of Rs 25,000, while the balance Rs 5.75 lakh will be disbursed after the completion of formalities, Manendragarh’s Divisional Forest Officer Loknath Patel said.
