Raipur: After the patwaris, the tehsildars and deputy tehsildars joined the strike in Chhattisgarh. A memorandum has been submitted to Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma today. This action has been prompted by an incident in Jhalp where a deputy tehsildar was beaten up, an action that has incurred the wrath of all tehsildars and deputies, too. To express anger over the incident, the week has been set from July 10 to July 12 for the employees to form a strike. Organizing a rally under the Kanistha Prashasanik Sangh, they submitted a memorandum consisting of seven demands to the minister, including security in offices. They have threatened their employers with an indefinite strike if their demand is unmet.
The tehsildars said that they had informed the government and the courts about the security issues and that the previous government had sent requisitioned letters to all the collectors to ensure security in the courts. However, no positive change is visible out there in the field, and cases of attacks, abuse, and harassment done by anti-social persons not only to tehsildars but also to deputy tehsildars are still on. Consequently, it has become quite a challenge for them to execute their responsibilities in the court.
Deputy tehsildars have been declared as gazetted officers by the Chief Minister during the previous tenure of the government, but no circular has been issued in this regard to the concerned authority till now.
The memorandum has also noted that while talking to the media about the policy of 50-50 for the slab promotion with effect from tehsildar to deputy collector up to deputy SP, the state has not actually done it. ASLRs and SLRs are available in adequate numbers to be promoted as deputy tehsildars, but these posts have not been properly filled.
