Raipur: The well-known writer and composer from Chhattisgarh’s capital, Sumant Yadav, received an award at the International Conference for the song ‘Paid Period Leave. ’ The award was given during the reception at the Indian Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi, on 5 July 2024 and had been organized by Paid Period Leave’s campaigner and initiator, Ranjita Priyadarshini.
According to Sumant, he was moved by an interview of Ranjita Priyadarshini seen on his friend’s website. Listening to Ranjita’s campaign to ensure female employees get one day of paid leave in a month at the time of menstruation inspired him. Sumant was especially inspired by the advocacy, and with this in mind, he began writing a song about the topic. He then read a lot about women’s menstrual cycle and spent about four to five hours composing the tune. Lyrics started coming in, and within half an hour, the song was completed.
Hence, to make sure that the song is liked by the targeted demography, Sumant played the song to his friends, who are all females, and they loved it. They took it with immense efficacy; thus, the song was recorded after hearing the positive feedback. The concept of ‘Paid Period Leave’ was introduced for the first time in New Delhi on World Menstrual Hygiene Day in 2023. The song includes melodious singing by Homendra Bharti and Deeksha Dhangar, while the music was composed by Homendra Bharti. It can be accessed on Khabar Lok, a YouTube channel owned by the government of Rajasthan.
The accomplishment of Sumant in the field of dance verbalises that Chhattisgarh has the talent and has proved that it has the capability to produce talents that can spread the message of social change at the global level. His fame at such organized celebrations highlighted the themes in artistic performances as a call for meaningful change in society and recognized the rising status of Chhattisgarh artists in arts.
