Bilaspur: Students of Govt Boys Higher Secondary School of Chakarbata, Nyaydhani protested at the collector’s office demanding regularization of Hindi medium schools. The student submitted a memorandum to Collector Dr Saransh Mittar, the District Education Officer.
The protest came after the state govt announced to set up 32 new schools of Hindi Medium, one in each district and shut down all existing Hindi medium schools.
The memorandum also listed their fear of failure to admissions in the new schools. The students had three days ago met Bilha MLA Dharmalal Khaushik appealing to save the existing Hindi medium schools from demolishment. A discussion on the complaint was later sought amongst Kaushik and other officers of the education department which assured the Swami Atmanand schools would not be opened at sites demolishing old schools.
According to an official statement, the state government has planned to set up one school in each district on the lines of Swami Atmanand Government English Medium School (SAGES). The decision to set up more Swami Atmanand schools was taken in view of the demands raised by students, parents and public representatives of Hindi medium schools, a statement said. So far 171 English medium schools have been opened in the state. In these, 74,000 students of English medium and 60,000 students of Hindi medium are studying.
