Bhanupratapur: The 33rd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) gave young people from the Naxal-influenced regions in the Kanker district an occasion to visit key urban facilities such as Raipur and Bhilai. This initiative was meant to familiarise them with city life and some of the potential of urbanisation. They came back home today beaming and bursting with joy.

It was even the first time many of these youths had travelled by train and visited busy cities like Raipur and Bhilai. Hearing about such places during the tour, they visited some important places like Bhilai Steel Plant, which made an impression on their minds.

Upon reacting in enthusiasm, Deepak said, “I never thought a factory could be this big. Every time, we wondered where the raw iron from our region was being taken to, and now we discovered the factory through which it undergoes processing to form steel.”

According to SSB Commandant Mahendra Thakur, the main aim of this effort was to, first and foremost, bring youths from naxal-affixed districts in contact with urban lifestyles and prospects. A few of the places visited during the tour were the Bhilai Steel Plant and other places, but these young people get to expand their knowledge, update themselves, and become more confident.

Santlal, another participant, described his amazement: This was the first time we were visiting Bhilai and witnessing the steel plant was truly exciting. Tours like these can help youth from Naxal-affected areas attract urban life and development.”

Such actions of the SSB are very helpful in bettering the interaction between security agencies and the public. Through such endeavours, these programs not only enlighten young people in rural areas about modern development and life in the urban area but also help them build confidence and trust in the security forces and enhance their cooperation with them.
