RAIPUR: The 8 year old school child who suffered serious injuries in the auto-truck collision in Kanker on Thursday afternoon was shifted to Raipur, an official said.
Gautam Kumar Mandavi, the only child who survived the collision was hospitalized at a private medical centre in Kanker on Thursday but was referred to Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur as his condition deteriorated. As per medical reports Gautam has suffered multiple fracture and is under observation.
The accident took place near Korar Chilhati square in Bhanupratappur (around 100km from Raipur) when the auto driver was taking eight children of a private school home. The three-wheeler had twice as many passengers.
Witnesses have told police that the auto driver suddenly swerved to the other lane, leading to the accident. Investigators say they are studying tyre marks on the road to probe this angle and have appealed to people to come forward if they have CCTV or mobile footage connected to the accident.
The auto got stuck under the truck and was dragged on the road as the children screamed in pain and terror. The truck driver jumped off as soon as he could stop the vehicle, and ran away even as villagers rushed to save the kids, say police.
A lookout is also issued for the truck driver who is absconding. The autorickshaw driver is also reported to have suffered injuries.
