Raipur: Chhattisgarh is rapidly moving towards solar energy. Solar energy is transforming the landscape of the heavily Naxal-affected villages of Bastar. Electricity will no longer be dependent solely on thermal power plants. Cities and villages are now illuminated by the sun’s rays. The Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) is working diligently to bring solar power to every village. CREDA is also preparing to make Nava Raipur the state’s first solar city. This will bring solar power to government buildings, stadiums, and railway stations. Our Chhattisgarh is gradually moving towards becoming a solar hub.

Solar power plants, solar pumps, solar high masts, and off-grid solar plants are transforming the landscape of cities and villages. Work on solar energy is progressing rapidly, and its positive results are being seen in the last 25 years. Preparations have now begun to transform Nava Raipur into a solar city. Grid-connected solar plants with a capacity of 10 megawatts will be installed in government buildings. It is estimated that this will generate approximately 16 million units of electricity annually. This will reduce the burden of high electricity bills on government buildings. Besides government buildings, there are plans to solarize cricket stadiums and railway stations. Solar power plants have been rapidly being installed in the state in recent years.

State energy education parks to be net zero

Solar plants are also being installed in the state’s Energy Education Parks. Currently, seven Energy Education Parks—Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Bastar, Kotmi Sonar, and Patan—have 98-kilowatt solar plants installed. In keeping with the Government of India’s Net Zero Mission, steps have been taken to reduce the electricity consumption of all Energy Education Parks to net zero by installing on-grid solar power plants.

The country’s first battery storage solar plant is in Rajnandgaon.

The country’s first battery storage solar plant is located in Rajnandgaon. The power company draws electricity from this plant daily. The plant’s specialty is its massive battery storage capacity. This modern battery storage plant spans nine villages in Rajnandgaon. It cost ₹900 crore. The batteries store enough electricity to provide electricity for three hours.
