Raipur: The bail plea of suspended ADG GP Singh is posted for today at a session court in Raipur. Additional Sessions Special Judge Leena Agarwal would be hearing the bail plea moved by the accused IPS officer claiming there was no proper probe for the charge levied against him.
Earlier, GP Singh had moved HC for the bail, where the bench asked for the case diary and posted the case for February 21. It was on January 18th the special court rejected GP Singh’s bail plea for the first time and remanded him under 14-day judicial custody. Defence lawyer Kamlesh Pandey claimed there should be an initial investigation before registering an FIR and the accused should have been given a chance to give his statement.
Singh, a 1994-batch IPS officer, served as additional director general of ACB and EOW before he was transferred to the state police academy in June last year. He has been charged for possessing disproportionate assets after the EOW and ACB raided his residence and 15 other locations linked to him between July 1 and 3, last year. An ACB statement on July 3 said documents seized during searches at Singh’s premises suggested that he allegedly amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and indulged in a “massive exchange of money”. “Singh also allegedly tried to commit money laundering by investing in shell companies,” the statement added. It was also claimed that Singh possessed a dairy that included secret information pertaining to govt officials.
