Bijapur: The intense encounter between security forces and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district entered its fourth day in a row today. It is being conducted deep in the dense forests, and security personnel launched a decisive attack on the Maoist hideout. It is determined to break the Naxal network in the region.

Three bodies of the Naxals have been recovered with several weapons so far in the operation, which killed five Naxals. Heavy gunfire and bombing are ongoing, and on the fourth day into the offensive, helicopters are being used for aerial strikes. A video of the helicopter attack has also surfaced, showing the operation’s ferocity.

The incident has taken place near Karregutta Hills in the Kotapalli village under the Usur police station limits. Hidma, the notorious leader of the top Maoist leaders, was reportedly surrounded by the security forces. While a few were exiled, the Special Task Force (STF) pursued those, save for the intermittent gunfire that persisted.

It is perhaps an important step in the battle against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. Minister Kedar Kashyap lauded the bravery and commitment of the security forces and said that the state is steadily progressing towards becoming Naxalism-free. He warned about the process in the previous year, saying that the government had planned to bring Naxalism to an end in this country by March 2026.

The heat also wore down the forces, however. About 15 personnel have been affected by heatstroke because of the blistering temperatures. At neighboring Venkataram Hospital in Telangana, they are being treated. The grim conditions do not faze the handful of personnel who are still hanging on, resolved to eliminate the Naxal menace.
